Swiss ingredients

Home-grown ingredients

Have you ever wondered what gives RAMSEIER products their deliciously distinctive taste? It’s all the Swiss-grown ingredients, of course! They’re full of flavour and boost our drinks with the power of nature. RAMSEIER has always had close ties to nature. After all, the RAMSEIER brand comes from the idyllic town of Ramsei in the rural Emmental region. That’s where the business first transformed Swiss ingredients into delicious drinks all the way back in 1910.

Apples and pears

Apples and pears are the key ingredients boosting our products with the power of nature. Some 4,000 farmers supply us with around 30 varieties of apples and pears, including Tobiässler, Sauergrauech and Bohnapfel. On average, we receive 50,000 tonnes of apples and pears from across Switzerland every year. That’s around 50 to 60% of all the apples and pears harvested for juice in the country. You can count on us to use the very best fruit in our products and our farmer partners can count on us to buy the fruit they harvest – even in bumper crop years.

Water

Water is such an important resource, which makes it all the more important that we use it responsibly. Around 35 million litres of RAMSEIER drinks make their way to the shelves in Switzerland every year. As you can imagine, this requires huge volumes of water. That water goes into our drinks, but we also use it in our production process. Through modernisation and reuse, RAMSEIER Suisse AG has managed to reduce the water consumed in the production process per litre of drink by 16% over the past ten years.

Herbs

We base our “Huus-Tee” products on freshly brewed herbal tea. And we use Swiss herbs to make it. Lemon thyme mainly grows in the Emmental region. It’s a variety of the herb thyme with a hint of fresh lemon. We source apple mint for our RAMSEIER Huus-Tee from the Oberaargau region.

Fruit suppliers

Solid partnerships

When we partner with suppliers, we’re there for them whenever they need us – even if they’re not based locally to us. We manage this set-up through regional collection points, which are mostly based at Landi centres. The fruit is delivered to one of our two juicing centres – in Sursee (Lucerne) and Oberaach (Thurgau) – from the Landi collection points. At that point, it’s transformed into Switzerland’s favourite fruit juice drinks.

Exceptional quality

RAMSEIER products have an array of impressive labels:

Suisse Garantie

The Suisse Garantie label indicates premium Swiss quality. It’s a guarantee that at least 90% of the ingredients in the product have been produced and processed in Switzerland. RAMSEIER was the first fruit juice producer to be awarded the Suisse Garantie label.

Hochstamm schweiz

Standard fruit trees have been part of Switzerland’s cultural landscape for centuries. The number of trees used to exceed 15 million but has dropped to 2.3 million. Why is that? A lot of the work involved in maintaining standard trees and harvesting the fruit is done by hand, which means it’s time-consuming. The yield is lower and can be unpredictable depending on the weather conditions. RAMSEIER recognises the extra effort involved and bears some of the additional costs. And there’s good reason for this. Standard trees bear the best fruit for juice-making. It’s rich in acidity and full of flavour. And lots of different varieties grow on standard trees. It’s no wonder that around 75% of the fruit we use comes from standard trees. This is key to the deliciously distinctive taste of our drinks.

Bio suisse

The Bio label for Swiss organic farmers is a guarantee of compliance with the strict Bio Suisse standards. Through its licence contract with Bio Suisse, RAMSEIER supports the development of organic agriculture in Switzerland and ensures that products bearing the Bio Bud label are produced organically.

MAX HAVELAAR

RAMSEIER sources fair trade ingredients for its fruit juices that have been certified by the Max Havelaar Foundation for sustainably grown products and fair trade. This way, we know we’re improving the lives of small-scale farmers and plantation workers in developing and emerging countries.
